Abstract The state of Uttarakhand in India lies in a highly seismically active zone, therefore earthquake resistant design criteria have been followed for major construction practice in this region. One of the major inputs for earthquake-resistant design is average shear wave velocity (V S ) at 30 m depth. In the present work, at twenty-six different sites, the Horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique and multichannel analysis of surface wave (MASW) is used for joint analysis to obtain a one-dimensional velocity model that supports both the HV spectrum and dispersion curve obtained from HVSR and MASW methods, respectively. Shear wave profiles obtained at various sites are compared with the bore log data obtained from drilling and it clearly shows that the (V S ) for the same formation have a strong dependence on the depth at which it occurred. Data from twenty-four shear wave profiles have been used to prepare a linear regression relation of (V S ) for different lithological formations with respect to their depth of occurrence. Root mean square error obtained from the developed relationship for various lithologies clearly shows that the results are fairly well within the range of acceptance. The developed relations have been further validated by calculating Vs profile from bore log data obtained at two new location sites that are not included in the data set used for the preparation of regression relations. A comparison of two velocity sections clearly shows that the velocity profile computed from regression relation matches closely with that obtained from the seismic survey and thereby establishing the efficacy of developed regression relationship for its practical implementation. This developed relation allows soil type classification for zoning purposes.

Resumen El estado de Uttarakhand en la India se encuentra en una zona de alta actividad sísmica, por lo que se han seguido criterios de diseño resistentes a los terremotos para las principales prácticas de construcción en esta región. Una de las principales entradas para el diseño resistente a los terremotos es la velocidad media de la onda de corte (V S ) a 30 m de profundidad. En el presente trabajo, en veintiséis sitios diferentes, la técnica de la relación espectral horizontal a vertical (HVSR) y el análisis multicanal de onda de superficie (MASW) se utiliza para el análisis conjunto para obtener un modelo de velocidad unidimensional que soporta tanto la curva de espectro de HV como la curva de dispersión obtenida de los métodos HVSR y MASW, respectivamente. Los perfiles de onda de corte obtenidos en varios sitios se comparan con los datos de registro de perforación obtenidos de la perforación y muestra claramente que los Vs para la misma formación tienen una fuerte dependencia de la profundidad en la que ocurrió. Se han utilizado datos de veinticuatro perfiles de onda de corte para preparar una relación de regresión lineal de Vs para diferentes formaciones litológicas con respecto a su profundidad de ocurrencia. El error cuadrático medio obtenido a partir de la relación desarrollada para varias litologías muestra claramente que los resultados están bastante bien dentro del rango de aceptación. Las relaciones desarrolladas han sido validadas adicionalmente por el cálculo de perfil Vs de los datos de registro de perforación obtenidos en dos nuevos sitios de ubicación que no están incluidos en el conjunto de datos utilizado para la preparación de relaciones de regresión. Una comparación de dos secciones de velocidad muestra claramente que el perfil de velocidad calculado a partir de la relación de regresión coincide estrechamente con el obtenido de la encuesta sísmica y por lo tanto se establece la eficacia de la relación de regresión desarrollada para su implementación práctica. Esta relación desarrollada permite la clasificación del tipo de suelo para fines de zonificación.

Abstract Introduction: In developing countries like India, it is common for late presentation of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) patients to a hospital as compared to that of developed countries. The objective of this study is to analyze the surgical outcome of TOF patients with age > 15 years. Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study of the surgical outcomes of 45 adult patients undergoing correction for TOF. Epidemiology, symptomology, and preoperative evaluation were performed. Results: Most of the patients were male (33 [73%]). The median age was 21 years. A total of 42 (93.33%) patients had subaortic ventricular septal defect (VSD), while three (6.6%) patients presented with doubly committed VSD. The most common type of right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) obstruction was combined infundibular and valvular types, accounting for 34 cases (75.5%). Six patients had infundibular RVOT obstruction, while three patients (6.6%) had predominantly valvular pulmonary stenosis. We performed trans-right atrial repair in 33 patients. Right atrium-pulmonary artery approach was used in five patients (11.1%). The most common postoperative complication was right bundle branch block, seen in 14 patients, with a mortality rate of 2% in the early postoperative period. We achieved excellent early and midterm survival results and significant improvement in functions and disease-free quality of life. Conclusion: Intracardiac repair in adult TOF can be performed with low mortality, less residual RVOT obstruction, and need for revision of RVOT far less frequent by using the Jhajhria Infundibular Resection Adequacy Assessment technique (JIRAAT) to assess for adequacy of infundibular resection.

Abstract The current investigation entail systematic Quality by Design (QbD)-enabled approach for the development of Sustained released embedded drug delivery systems of L-Arginine employing ionic gelation technique to attain improved patient compliance. Hence, in this QbD enabled systematic approach; quality target product profile (QTTP) was defined and critical quality attributes (CQAs) were identified. Further the risk assessment studies were undertaken through Ishikawa fish bone diagram to locate the critical material attributes (CMAs) and/or critical process parameters (CPPs) for the formulation of beads that may affect CQAs of drug product. A face centered central composite design (CCD) for two factors at three levels each with α =1 was employed for the optimization process to checkout the impact of concentration of sodium alginate and concentration of chitosan as CMAs which wereprior identified from risk assessment study and further evaluated for CQAs viz. bead size, swelling index and percent drug entrapment. The optimum formulation was embarked upon by using mathematical model being developed yielding desired CQAs. Thereby chitosan coated calcium-alginate delivery system was successfully developed by strategically employing QbD approach.In a nutshell, the presentinvestigation reports the successful development of optimized chitosan coated alginate beads employing QbD approach which can serve as a platform for other drugs too.

ABSTRACT: Environmental impacts caused by the addition of rare earth elements (REEs) to agricultural soils are a growing concern. The sedimentary basin of the Gurguéia River is located in one of the last agricultural frontiers in Brazil; nevertheless, data regarding quality reference values (QRVs) for REEs in soils are still scarce. The objective of this study was therefore to determine the natural concentration and establish the QRVs of REEs in soils of Gurguéia watershed, Brazil. Fifty-five composite soil samples were collected at sites under no or minimal anthropic interference. The average REE natural concentrations in soils from the Gurguéia watershed were lower than those found in other regions of Brazil and worldwide, following the order (mg kg−1): Ce (14.01) > Nd (6.19) > La (5.52) > Pr (2.51) > Sm (1.45) > Gd (0.93) > Dy (0.63) > Er (0.42) > Yb (0.39) > Tb (0.28) > Eu (0.26) > Lu (0.20). The parent material was the main factor that controlled the distribution of REEs in soils. The QRVs in soils followed the order (mg kg−1): Ce (18.8) > Nd (7.92) > La (6.32) > Pr (3.3) > Sm (1.97) > Gd (1.35) > Dy (0.85) > Er (0.55) > Yb (0.47) > Tb (0.37) > Lu (0.25). These values serve as a basis to assist the development of legislation, including REE thresholds for Brazilian soils.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo selecionar modelos de semivariograma para estimar tendências de precipitação mensal no Estado da Paraíba-Brasil usando krigagem comum. A metodologia envolve a aplicação de interpolação geoestatística de registros de precipitação de 51 anos de 69 estações de chuva em todo o estado. A análise de semivariogramas mostrou que meses específicos apresentaram forte dependência espacial (Índice de Dependência Espacial - IDE <25%). As tendências foram submetidas aos seguintes modelos: circular, esférico, pentassesférico, exponencial, gaussiano, quadrático racional, K - Bessel e tetrasspherical. Os melhores modelos de ajuste foram selecionados por validação cruzada e Índice de Comparação de Erros (ICE). Cada conjunto de dados (mês) possuía uma estrutura de dependência espacial específica, o que tornava necessário definir modelos específicos de semivariograma, a fim de aprimorar o ajuste do semivariograma experimental. Além disso, o mapa mensal de tendências foi plotado para justificar os modelos escolhidos.

Abstract This work aimed to select semivariogram models to estimate trends in monthly precipitation in Paraiba State-Brazil using ordinary kriging. The methodology involves the application of geostatistical interpolation of precipitation records of 51 years from 69 rainfall stations across the state. Analysis of semivariograms showed that specific months had a strong spatial dependence (Index of Spatial Dependence - IDE < 25%). The trends were subjected to the following models: circular, spherical, pentaspherical, exponential, Gaussian, rational quadratic, K-Bessel and tetraspherical. The best fit models were selected by cross-validation and Error Comparison Index (ECI). Each data set (month) had a particular spatial dependence structure, which made it necessary to define specific models of semivariogram in order to enhance the adjustment of the experimental semivariogram. Besides, the monthly trend map was plotted to justify the chosen models.

Resumo A resistência aos antibióticos é uma preocupação crescente para a saúde pública. Os antibióticos continuam a ser prescritos por alguns dentistas para resolver a dor dentária, embora pesquisas indiquem que os antibióticos não são eficazes no tratamento de condições como a pulpite irreversível. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar em que medida as pesquisas atuais e as evidências em torno da pulpite irreversível foram traduzidas em prática odontológica e as lacunas existentes no conhecimento dos dentistas. Um questionário de pesquisa em formato de vinheta clínica on-line sobre o tratamento da pulpite irreversível foi distribuído para os membros da Academia de Odontologia Operatória e da Academia de Odontologia Geral (órgãos dentários internacionais dos EUA). Suas respostas foram registradas e avaliadas. Um total de 403 dentistas participou da pesquisa. Mais de um terço (39,3%) indicaram que prescreveriam antibióticos para pulpite irreversível sintomática em um dente permanente sem qualquer sinal de infecção sistêmica. O restante respondeu que eles não prescreveriam antibióticos; a maioria deles prescreveria um analgésico combinado com pulpectomia. Aqueles que realizaram o treinamento de educação avançada obtiveram uma pontuação de conhecimento médio significativamente maior em comparação com aqueles com apenas um grau primário de conhecimento odontológico (p=0,011). Da mesma forma, acadêmicos em tempo integral ou parcial tiveram uma pontuação média de conhecimento maior do que os clínicos que trabalham apenas em consultório particular (p=0,014). Alguns dentistas continuam a prescrever antibióticos inadequadamente para aliviar a dor decorrente de pulpite irreversível. Práticas de prescrição de antibióticos por dentistas com educação avançada ou envolvimento acadêmico foram melhores em comparação com os outros participantes. Há evidências claras de excesso de prescrição de antibiótico para pulpite irreversível que precisa ser tratada com urgência.

Abstract Antibiotic resistance is a growing public health concern. Antibiotics continue to be prescribed by some clinicians to resolve dental pain even though research indicates that antibiotics are not effective for treating conditions such as irreversible pulpitis. The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which current research and evidence around irreversible pulpitis has been translated into dental practice and the gaps in dentists’ knowledge. An on-line clinical vignette format survey questionnaire about treatment of irreversible pulpitis was distributed to the members of the Academy of Operative Dentistry and Academy of General Dentistry (US based international dental bodies). Their responses were recorded and evaluated. A total of 403 dentists participated in the survey. Over a third (39.3%) indicated they would prescribe antibiotics for symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in a permanent tooth occurring without any signs of systemic infection. The rest indicated they would not prescribe antibiotics; most of them would prescribe an analgesic combined with pulpectomy. Those who had undertaken advanced education training achieved a significantly higher mean knowledge score compared to those with just a primary dental degree (p=0.011). Similarly, full or part time academicians had a higher mean knowledge score than the clinicians who work only in private practice (p=0.014). Some dentists continue to prescribe antibiotics inappropriately for alleviating pain due to irreversible pulpitis. Antibiotic prescribing practices of dentists with advanced education or academic engagement were better as compared to the other participants. There is clear evidence of antibiotic over-prescribing for irreversible pulpitis which needs to be addressed urgently.

ABSTRACT. Metal concentrations in suspended sediments of one of the most polluted rivers in Brazil were measured. Concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn were determined by inductively coupled plasma while Hg and As were analyzed with hydride generation flow injection atomic absorption spectroscopy. Contamination of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn was assessed using pollution indices, ecological risk assessment, statistical multivariate techniques and comparison with sediment quality guidelines. Suspended sediments of the upstream portion of the Ipojuca River are moderately contaminated, especially with Mn and As. On the other hand, sediments of the downstream section are highly contaminated, mainly with Zn, Pb, and As. Furthermore, the mean Ei (potential ecological risk) values of Pb and As showed considerable ecological risk in the downstream cross section. The comparison of our data with sediment guideline values indicated that the concentrations of Mn and Pb in the upstream section of the Ipojuca River pose a risk to sediment-dwelling organisms, while Pb and Zn are the metals of concern in the downstream section.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects on health of pregnant female rats exposed to pesticides glyphosate and carbendazim. Glyphosate is used as herbicide and carbendazim as a fungicide; all are commercially available readily for various agricultural and domestic purposes. The hypothesis tested in this investigation is that pesticide exposure during pregnancy causes changes in biomarker responses like serum glucose level, total protein, total cholesterol, triglycerides, SGOT, SGPT, and billirubin level. Significant changes were observed in all above biomarker responses, when compared with the reference. Histopathology of skin and kidney of rat neonates showed marked damage. Degenerative changes and vacuolization with eroded capsule were observed in kidney sample and thinning of epidermis in skin sample was seen in pesticides exposed neonates of rats. The serum biochemistry and histopathological findings are valuable markers for observing the changes caused by pesticide exposure.

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to design pilot helmets and to perform analysis of designed ballistic helmet against impact strength of bullet in Solidworks and Laminator software. The material used for construction of the helmet is fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite in which polymer matrix is made of nylon, a thermoset resin, and the fibers are aramid, an aromatic polymide resin developed by E.I. duPont de Nemours and Company and sold under the trademarks “Kevlar®” and “Nomex®”. The design of the helmet is done by deciding the stacking sequence of various laminae which are oriented with main material directions at different angles to the global laminate axes in order to produce a structural element in the form of a shell. The simulation of the helmet in Solidworks and Laminator is done with an 8-g AK 47 bullet, hitting it with a velocity of 710 m/s. The model is validated against published data and a good correlation is observed. The result of this project is that a 1.30 kg helmet with shell thickness of 7 mm is obtained, which is economical, light weight and is able to give high-performance protection against ballistic shrapnel and bullets.

RESUMO O conhecimento da disponibilidade hídrica natural, caracterizada pelas vazões mínimas, é essencial para o planejamento e a gestão dos recursos hídricos. Uma das técnicas hidrológicas mais utilizadas para estimar a vazão é a regionalização, mas a extrapolação das equações de regionalização para além dos limites dos dados usados para estimar os parâmetros do modelo de regressão não é recomendada. Este trabalho propõe um novo método para minimizar o risco associado à extrapolação das equações de regionalização de vazões mínimas. O método baseia-se na utilização de um valor de limiar, que é a máxima vazão mínima específica estimada nas estações fluviométricas utilizadas no estudo de regionalização. Quando a vazão mínima específica estimada a partir da equação de regionalização excede o valor limiar, a vazão mínima é obtida multiplicando-se a área de drenagem pelo valor limiar. Esta restrição impõe um limite físico para as vazões mínimas, o que reduz o risco de superestimar as vazões nas regiões de extrapolação. Um estudo de caso foi realizado para a bacia Urucuia, no Brasil, e os resultados obtidos mostraram um bom desempenho da equação de regionalização, o que reduz o risco de extrapolação.

ABSTRACT Knowledge of natural water availability, which is characterized by low flows, is essential for planning and management of water resources. One of the most widely used hydrological techniques to determine streamflow is regionalization, but the extrapolation of regionalization equations beyond the limits of sample data is not recommended. This paper proposes a new method for reducing overestimation errors associated with the extrapolation of regionalization equations for low flows. The method is based on the use of a threshold value for the maximum specific low flow discharge estimated at the gauging sites that are used in the regionalization. When a specific low flow, which has been estimated using the regionalization equation, exceeds the threshold value, the low flow can be obtained by multiplying the drainage area by the threshold value. This restriction imposes a physical limit to the low flow, which reduces the error of overestimating flows in regions of extrapolation. A case study was done in the Urucuia river basin, in Brazil, and the results showed the regionalization equation to perform positively in reducing the risk of extrapolation.

<title>ABSTRACT</title><sec><title>Purpose:</title><p>Urolithiasis is a common urological disorder responsible for serious human affliction and cost to the society with a high recurrence rate. The aim of the present study was to systematically evaluate the phlorotannin rich extract of <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> using suitable in vitro and in vivo models to provide scientific evidence for its antilithiatic activity.</p></sec><sec><title>Materials and Methods:</title><p>To explore the effect of <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> on calcium oxalate crystallization, in vitro assays like crystal nucleation, aggregation and crystal growth were performed. Calcium oxalate urolithiasis was induced in male Sprague dawley rats using a combination of gentamicin and calculi producing diet (5% ammonium oxalate and rat pellet feed). The biochemical parameters like calcium, oxalate, magnesium, phosphate, sodium and potassium were evaluated in urine, serum and kidney homogenates. Histopathological studies were also done to confirm the biochemical findings.</p></sec><sec><title>Results:</title><p>The yield of <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> extract was found to be 74.5 gm/kg and confirmed by quantitative analysis. In vitro experiments with <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> showed concentration dependent inhibition of calcium oxalate nucleation, aggregation and growth supported by SEM analysis. In the in vivo model, <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic>reduced both calcium and oxalate supersaturation in urine, serum and deposition in the kidney. The biochemical results were supported by histopathological studies.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusion:</title><p>The findings of the present study suggest that <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> has the ability to prevent nucleation, aggregation and growth of calcium oxalate crystals. <italic>Sargassum wightii</italic> has better preventive effect on calcium oxalate stone formation indicating its strong potential to develop as a therapeutic option to prevent recurrence of urolithiasis.</p></sec>

Organizations of today face numerous challenges, and training their sales force is definitely high on its agenda. This paper endeavors to contribute to the sales training field by providing a comprehensive stateof- the art and contemporary review through the study of publications in sales training research in the last 30 years (1985-2014). The specific objectives of the review are to study the chronological trends and structural distribution of sales training research in terms of the research type, research focus, methods, research themes and other issues such as methodology, analytical techniques, geographical region etc. Findings of 56 articles on sales training research published in the last three decades are analyzed and directions for future research are identified.

Las organizaciones actuales se enfrentan a numerosos retos, siendo prioritaria en su agenda la formación de su fuerza de ventas. El presente documento pretende contribuir en este campo, mediante la aportación de una revisión amplia, vanguardista y contemporánea del estudio de las publicaciones sobre la investigación de la formación en ventas durante los últimos 30 años (1985-2014). Los objetivos específicos de la revisión son el estudio de las tendencias cronológicas y la distribución estructural de la investigación de la formación en ventas, en términos de tipo, objetivo y temas de la investigación, así como otras cuestiones tales como la metodología, las técnicas analíticas, la región geográfica, etc. Se analizan los hallazgos de 56 artículos sobre investigación de la formación en ventas, publicados durante los últimos treinta años, y se identifican las orientaciones de la investigación futura.

The breeding habitat of sandflies is a little studied and poorly understood phenomenon. More importantly, oviposition behaviour is a largely neglected aspect of sandfly biology and this knowledge gap further undermines our understanding of the biology of sandflies. Pheromones released by the eggs play an important role in identifying good sites for oviposition by female insects. Several recent studies have examined the oviposition pheromone. The present study provides a preliminary report on the oviposition behaviour of Phlebotomus argentipes, the only vector of kala-azar (or visceral leishmaniasis) on the Indian sub-continent. Sandflies prefer to oviposit their eggs on surfaces that contain organic substances, especially substances with an odour of decaying animal products and the remains of conspecific eggs. The results presented here suggest that the odour released by the organic substances of old sandfly colony remains that contain dead flies, old unhatched eggs, larval food containing vertebrate faeces, frass and other organic matter serves as an attractant for the ovipositing females of P. argentipes and hence greatly increases the number of oviposited eggs compared to eggs deposited in controlled oviposition pots. This result will be helpful in maintaining an efficient colony of P. argentipes and may be a promising tool for monitoring and controlling the target insect as part of a synergistic approach.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a women's group intervention involving participatory learning and action has a sustainable and replicable effect on neonatal survival in rural, eastern India. METHODS: From 2004 to 2011, births and neonatal deaths in 36 geographical clusters in Jharkhand and Odisha were monitored. Between 2005 and 2008, these clusters were part of a randomized controlled trial of how women's group meetings involving participatory learning and action influence maternal and neonatal health. Between 2008 and 2011, groups in the original intervention clusters (zone 1) continued to meet to discuss post-neonatal issues and new groups in the original control clusters (zone 2) met to discuss neonatal health. Logistic regression was used to examine neonatal mortality rates after 2008 in the two zones. FINDINGS: Data on 41 191 births were analysed. In zone 1, the intervention's effect was sustained: the cluster-mean neonatal mortality rate was 34.2 per 1000 live births (95% confidence interval, CI: 28.3-40.0) between 2008 and 2011, compared with 41.3 per 1000 live births (95% CI: 35.4-47.1) between 2005 and 2008. The effect of the intervention was replicated in zone 2: the cluster-mean neonatal mortality rate decreased from 61.8 to 40.5 per 1000 live births between two periods: 2006-2008 and 2009-2011 (odds ratio: 0.69, 95% CI: 0.57-0.83). Hygiene during delivery, thermal care of the neonate and exclusive breastfeeding were important factors. CONCLUSION: The effect of participatory women's groups on neonatal survival in rural India, where neonatal mortality is high, was sustainable and replicable.

OBJETIVO: Determinar si las intervenciones con aprendizaje y acción participativos con grupos de mujeres tienen un efecto sostenible y reproducible en la supervivencia neonatal en las zonas rurales del este de India. MÉTODOS: Desde 2004 hasta 2011 se controlaron los nacimientos y muertes neonatales en 36 agrupaciones geográficas en Jharkhand y Odisha. Entre 2005 y 2008, esas agrupaciones formaron parte de un ensayo controlado aleatorio para averiguar cómo las reuniones de grupos de mujeres que incluyen un aprendizaje y acción participativos influyen en la salud materna y neonatal. Entre 2008 y 2011, los grupos en las agrupaciones originales de intervención (zona 1) siguieron reuniéndose para debatir sobre cuestiones posneonatales y otros grupos nuevos en las agrupaciones originales de control (zona 2) se reunieron para debatir sobre la salud neonatal. Se empleó una regresión logística para examinar las tasas de mortalidad neonatal en ambas zonas tras del año 2008. RESULTADOS: Se analizaron los datos de 41 191 nacimientos. En la zona 1, el efecto de la intervención fue prolongado: la tasa de mortalidad neonatal media en la agrupación fue de 34,2 por cada 1000 nacidos vivos (intervalo de confianza del 95%, IC: 28,3-40,0) entre 2008 y 2011, comparada con el 41,3 por cada 1000 nacidos vivos (IC del 95%: 35,4-47,1) entre los años 2005 y 2008. El efecto de la intervención se repitió en la zona 2: la tasa de mortalidad neonatal media descendió del 61,8 hasta el 40,5 por cada 1000 nacidos vivos entre dos periodos: 2006-2008 y 2009-2011 (cociente de probabilidades: 0,69, IC del 95%: 0,57-0,83). Algunos factores importantes fueron la higiene durante el parto, la atención térmica de los neonatos y la lactancia materna exclusiva. CONCLUSIÓN: El efecto de los grupos participativos de mujeres sobre la supervivencia neonatal en las zonas rurales de India, donde la mortalidad neonatal es elevada, resultó sostenible y reproducible.

MÉTHODES: De 2004 à 2011, les naissances et la mortalité néonatale ont été suivies dans 36 zones géographiques des États du Jharkhand et de l'Odisha. Entre 2005 et 2008, ces zones ont été intégrées dans un essai contrôlé randomisé portant sur l'influence sur la santé maternelle et néonatale des réunions de groupes féminins menant des activités d'apprentissage et des actions participatives. Entre 2008 et 2011, les groupes provenant des zones d'intervention d'origine (zone 1) se réunissaient toujours pour débattre des questions post-néonatales, et les nouveaux groupes provenant des zones de contrôle d'origine (zone 2) se sont réunis pour aborder le sujet de la santé néonatale. On a eu recours à la régression logistique pour analyser les taux de mortalité néonatale après 2008 dans ces deux zones. RÉSULTATS: Les données de 41 191 naissances ont été analysées. Dans la zone 1, l'effet de l'intervention s'est révélé durable: le taux de mortalité néonatale moyen de la région a été de 34,2 pour 1 000 naissances vivantes (intervalle de confiance de 95%, IC: 28,3-40) entre 2008 et 2011, par rapport à 41,3 pour 1 000 naissances vivantes (IC de 95%: 35,4-47,1) entre 2005 et 2008. L'effet de l'intervention s'est reproduit dans la zone 2: le taux de mortalité néonatale moyen de la zone a baissé de 61,8 à 40,5 pour 1 000 naissances vivantes entre les deux périodes: 2006-2008 et 2009-2011 (rapport des cotes, RC: 0,69, IC de 95%: 0,57-0,83). L'hygiène pendant l'accouchement, le maintien de la température corporelle du nouveau-né et l'allaitement maternel exclusif ont été des facteurs importants. CONCLUSION: L'effet des groupes féminins participatifs sur la survie néonatale dans l'Inde rurale, où la mortalité néonatale est élevée, s'est révélé durable et reproductible.

Agro-industrial wastes such as sugarcane bagasse, wheat bran, rice bran, corn cob and wheat straw are cheapest and abundantly available natural carbon sources. The present study was aimed to production of amylase and xylanase simultaneously using agro-industrial waste as the sole carbon source. Seven thermophilic strains of actinomycete were isolated from the mushroom compost. Among of these, strain designated MSC702 having high potential to utilize agro-industrial wastes for the production of amylase and xylanase. Strain MSC702 was identified as novel species of Streptomyces through morphological characterization and 16S rRNA gene sequence. Enzyme production was determined using 1% (w/v) of various agro-industrial waste in production medium containing (g/100mL): K2HPO4(0.1), (NH4)2SO4(0.1), NaCl (0.1), MgSO4(0.1) at pH 7.0 after incubation of 48 h at 50°C. The amylase activity (373.89 IU/mL) and xylanase activity (30.15 IU/mL) was maximum in rice bran. The decreasing order of amylase and xylanase activity in different type of agro-industrial wastes were found rice bran (RB) > corn cob (CC) > wheat bran (WB) > wheat straw (WS) > sugarcane bagasse (SB) and rice bran (RB) > wheat bran (WB) > wheat straw (WS) > sugarcane bagasse (SB) > corn cob (CC), respectively. Mixed effect of different agro-industrial wastes was examined in different ratios. Enzyme yield of amylase and xylanase was ~1.3 and ~2.0 fold higher with RB: WB in 1:2 ratio.
